Library Trustee Minutes 6.17.15

Present: Laurie Bryan, Mary Garland Amy Markus, Suzanne Shevenell, Meeting called to order at 1:00 pm
The minutes of April 22, 2105 were reviewed; Bryan, seconded by Garland, made a motion to accept as written.  Motion to accept was unanimous, and the vote to accept the minutes was unanimous.
The trustees reviewed the Treasurer’s report for the month ending March 31, 2015. The trustees discussed the March 2015 Statement of Income and Expenses. Director Markus was asked to contact Town Administrator Kendall, and to arrange with her a monthly payment schedule of $1000, beginning in June, of the $7000 approved in for library use in the 2015 warrant. Shevenell  seconded by Byran, made the motion to accept the March, 2015 Treasurer’s report. Motion to accept was unanimous. The Trustees at the July 22, 2015 meeting will review the financial reports for April, May and June 2015.

Director’s Report: Markus provided the trustees with summary of the adult/ teen/ children summer reading program.  There are two themes this year: Adult readers are encouraged to “Escape the Ordinary”, while teen and younger readers will center on “ Every Hero Has a Story”. A challenge will be made by our 2 librarians to all Hancock readers to see which group, adults, or the younger readers can read the MOST HOURS!  The contest begins on June 29 and runs through August 11, 2015. Information is available at the Library Front Desk. Markus reviewed with the trustees the calendar of events that are planned by Children’s Librarian Callie Faucher. These events are in part the result of the monies received earlier in the year from the Hancock’s Women’s Club, which were accepted by the trustees earlier this year. Markus summarized briefly the adult programs which will run in July, of which a detailed description of topic, and times are available on the Library website and in the July volume of Hancock Happenings. She stated that as in the past, activity in August is centered on the all-important Friends of the Hancock Library Book Sale. This is the Friends main fundraiser for the Library, and donations are welcome.

Library Building Maintenance: The trustees discussed the need for the scheduling of the yearly building rug cleaning, and asked Director Markus to solicit bids from area contractors, and to schedule the cleaning after Old Home Activities have ended. The trustees will begin gathering cost information to replace the building’s carpet, with a time frame to review the associated costs with the Town’s Capital Improvement Committee for the 2017 budgeting session.

Other Business: Markus is arranging with volunteers to have a person with her for both Tuesday and Thursday evenings, between 5 and 7pm.

The volunteer thank you luncheon has been scheduled for September 25, 2015, at 1pm at the Harris Center.

Next trustee meeting is scheduled at 1pm on July 22, 2015.

There being no other issues at hand, Shevenell made a motion to adjourn at 2:10 pm, which was seconded by Garland, and voted so in the affirmative by the three trustees. Meeting adjourned.
